Former world champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-1, 30KOs) will be moving up to cruiserweight to take on the former light heavyweight champion Joe Smith Jr. (28-4, 22KOs) who will be moving up as well. The 12 round battle will take place at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and is presented live on DAZN in association with Star Boxing on Saturday, October 7.

Zurdo Ramirez is the former WBO super middleweight champion with 15 years of professional experience in the ring. He has notable wins against Maxim Vlasov, Jessie “Hard Work” Hart and “King” Arthur Abraham. Zurdo’s only loss comes against Dmitrii Bivol in November 2022 and still put up a hard fight. Zurdo is a slick southpaw with decent power and a lot of experience.

Long Island’s very own Joe Smith Jr. is an overachiever. He takes pride in proving his critics wrong. He is a tough, rugged fighter who has a notable win against Maxim Vlasov, who he relived of the WBO light heavyweight strap. Smith Jr. has also successfully defended his title against Steve Geffered in January of 2022. Also on his resume Smith Jr. has wins against boxing legend Bernard Hopkins, as well as former world champion Eleider Alvarez, and title contenders Jessie Hard and Andrzej Fonfara. Smith Jr will also be moving up in weight to cruiserweight to face off against Zurdo Ramirez and his tough rugged style will prove to be a problem for the Mexican southpaw.
