De La Hoya vs Belfort: The Return of the Golden Boy

The “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya makes his return to the boxing ring after about 13 years has he faces off against former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort on September 11th. The pair are set to square off in what was initially supposed to be an exhibition match is now a fully sanctioned, 8 round light heavyweight match taking place in the STAPLES center in LA. This bout will be presented vias live stream on FITE starting at 9 pm ET/ 6 pm PT with the PPV price at 49.99 USD.

Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs), an Olympic gold medalist in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. The Golden Boy has held world titles in 5 divisions, has notable wins against Ricardo Mayorga, Fernando Vargas, Arturo Gatti, Hector Camacho, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. and Pernell Whitaker. De La Hoya was a tall, skilled fighter with a great jab and left hook. With quick hands and a high punch output he overwhelmed a lot of fighters. Will we see glimpses of the De La Hoya of old times or will more than a decades worth of ring rust and inactivity have him fall prey to the MMA “Phenom” Vitor Blefort?

Vitor Belfort who holds an MMA record of 26-14, 1 NC and a pro boxing record of 1-0 with 1 KO. Belfort is tied for the 3rd most finishes in the history of the UFC. Belfort is looking to come out aggressive and make it an early night for the Golden Boy. Belfort is strong and made light work of his first and only pro boxing match with a first round knockout in Brazil.

Also on the fight card we have Anderson Silva going toe to toe with Tito Ortiz in an 8 round cruiserweight boxing match. Andy Vences (23-2-1, 12KOs) will challenge Jono “King Kong” Caroll ( 19-2-1,5KOs for the vacant WBC International Silver Super Featherweight Title. The former unified cruiserweight and heavyweight champion David ” Haymaker” Haye will go against Joe Fournier who has ammased a record of 9 wins all by KO.
