Berlanga to Headline a Card Filled with Puerto Rican Fighters for Puerto Rican Day Parade Weekend! Xander Zayas Forced to Withdraw from Card

Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (19-0, 16KOs) will have his dream come true, headlining a card at The Hulu Theater at MSG on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC. Berlanga will be defending his NABO belt in a 10 round main event at super middleweight against two-time world title challenger Alexis Angulo ( 27-2, 23KOs). Fellow Puerto Rican sensation Xander Zayas (13-0, 9KOs) was to be the co-feature against Ravshan Hudaynazarov (19-5, 14KOs) but due to a non- covid related viral infection Zayas was forced to withdraw from the bout. The new co-feature will put Puerto Rican junior lightweight Henry “Moncho” Lebron (15-0, 10KOs) against fellow countryman Luis “Popeye” Lebron (18-3-1, 11KOs) in an 8 round bout for the vacant WBO Latino title. The card is presented by Top Rank and will be shown live on ESPN starting at 10:30PM ET/ 7:30PM PT on June 11, 2022

Berlanga who has chosen to hold his training camp in Puerto Rico stated he feels ” like it was good to do my camp here for this fight. I just wanted to show my face and let the people know that I’m here and that I really do love and support them.” Berlanga opened his career with 16 consecutive first round knockouts but in his last three outings he went the distance. He will be going up against a more experienced fighter in Alexis Angulo who has faced the likes of David “El Bandera Roja” Benavidez and Gilberto” Zurdo” Ramirez, who those who watch boxing know are some of the toughest and talented fighter in the game currently. This is a big step up fight for Berlanga, with 23 of his 27 wins Angulo also packs a punch. Both fighters will be looking to cause damage when they square off.

Carlos Caraballo (15-1, 14KOs) will be fighting in an 8 round junior featherweight bout. His first 14 wins came by way of stoppage.

Josue Vargas (20-2, 9KOs) will make his return fighting at junior welterweight. Vargas who was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx will return back to the Hulu Theater where in his last outing at the Hulu Theater he went up against tough Mexican veteran and champion Jose Zepeda KO’d Vargas in the first round. Vargas is still a young, crafty southpaw with a lot left in the tank.
