Lopez vs Taylor: Battle at Junior Welterweight!

Scottish Josh Taylor (19-0, 13KOs) will put is WBO Junior welterweight title on the line against electrifying, Teofimo Lopez (18-1, 13KOs) of Brooklyn, NY. The fight will take place on June 10th at The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York and will be presented live on ESPN and ESPN+ in the United States and via Sky Sports in the U.K.

Both these fighters were at the top of the ladder for a while, but certain circumstances have put question marks to their status. Josh Taylor is a former 2014 Commonweath Games gold medalist turning pro just a year later. Taylor jumped onto the scene in the World Boxing Super Series light welterweight tournament in 2018. Taylor beat Ryan Martin, Ivan Barachyk, who he acquired the IBF title from. Taylor than took on Regis Prograis in the finals for the WBA and The Ring titles. Taylor then beat Jose Remairez to unify the division by grabbing the WBC and WBO belts. Taylor went on to beat Jack Catterall via a controversial split decision. A rematch was sought but never happened. After being stripped of multiple belts, Taylor is looking to regain his claim to undisputed. Taylor stated that he is ” completely 100% confident the fight doesn’t go past six to eight rounds”.

Teofimo Lopez had reached elite level by beating Richard Commey in 2019 via emphatic stoppage in the second round for the IBF title. Lopez then went on to beat Vasiliy Lomachenko for the WBA, WBO and the Ring titles. Lopez was crowned the king but lost the belts to George Kambosas Jr. in 2021. Lopez has won back to back fights. His win against Sandor Martin made people wonder if he is a shell of his former self. Many people believed Lopez didn’t do enough to win the fight.

Both fighters are coming to change the question mark after elite into an exclamation point! Both will look to rise back to the time after facing a fall from grace. This fight will be electrifying!
