Stevenson vs Artem: WBC Lightweight battle in Jersey!

Shakur Stevenson will be putting his WBC Lightweight title on the line when he squares off against the number 6th ranked WBC lightweight contender Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday July 6th and will be presented live via Top Rank on ESPN+.

Shakur Stevenson (21-0 is one of those names you hear when you speak of the future of boxing. The young champion from Jersey will be making his first title defense at 135 since moving up from super featherweight and taking the vacant lightweight title when he beat Edwin de Los Santos back in November. Stevenson was a silver medalist in the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Stevenson went on to win the WBO featherweight title against Joet Gonzalez in 2019. In 2021 Stevenson then moved up to super featherweight to snatch the WBO title from Jamel Herring. Stevenson went on to add Oscar Valdez to his resume for the WBC and Ring belts. Shakur knows what’s on the line, he is looking forward to fighting Haney and Tank and this first title defense is a step closer to that goal and his eventual catapult into elite. With this in mind as well as fighting in his hometown on Jersey Shakur will be on his “A” game come fight night. Stevenson was quoted as saying ” “It feels good to be going back home to Newark, where they appreciate a young legend, and to make my first title defense at 135,” Stevenson said. “On July 6, Down Goes Artem!”

Artem Harutyunyan (12-1, 7KOs) was quoted as saying “I respect Shakur Stevenson as a champion, but I’m coming to shock his hometown fans and win the WBC lightweight championship,” Harutyunyan said. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I will take full advantage of it. This will be my second fight in the U.S. I’ve learned and progressed since my loss to Frank Martin.” Artem is looking to gain some progress forward after he was handed is first loss against Frank Martin who will be facing Tank Davis this month. A win against Shakur Stevenson will add some stock back into Artem’s name and he will be working hard to get the upset in the champions hometown.

Also on the card we have O’Shaquie Foster (22-2, 12KOs) who will defend his WBC super featherweight title against Robson Conceicao (18-2-1, 9KOs) as well as the sensation Keyshawn Davis going against Miguel Madueno in a lightweight battle.
