Hemphill vs. Stevens: Tripleheader of the Undefeated

SHOBOX: The Next Generation is showing how you put a card on when they pit two former Trainers of the year with their respective undefeated prospects. James “Buddy’ McGirt’s Super middleweight prospect Sean Hemphill will square off with David Stevens who is cornered by Ronnie Shields. The tripleheader, which is promoted by Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotions, takes place on Friday January 20th a 9PM ET live on SHOWTIME from Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem, PA. The tripleheader will have 6 undefeated fighters in 3 matchups in which the prospect pugilists have a combined record of 61-0-1 with 43 KOs.

In the main event we have David Stevens (11-0, 8KOs) who is a PA native going against New Orleans Native Sean Hemphill (14-0, 8 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout. Stevens has a higher KO percentage with the hometown advantage. Stevens’ trainer, Ronnie Shields was dubbed by the World Boxing Hall of Fame, “Trainer of the Year” in 2003 and has worked with the likes of Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. Hemphill’s trainer, McGirt was named the Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year in 2002 and has worked with the likes of Arturo Gatti, Hasim Rahman, Sergey Kovalev and Antonio Tarver. The gems these to world class trainers instill in these up-and-coming prospects are invaluable and from trainer to fighter this makes to be a great bout. Since turning pro Hemphill has shown to be active fighting three times in 2021, four times in 2020 and six times when he debuted in 2019 and had an amateur career of 55 wins and 12 losses. Stevens has also been active, fighting three times in 2022 and has stopped 4 of his last 5 opponents. Stevens has an amateur record of 60-8, being a two-time Junior Olympic gold medalist and a Silver Glove champion as well as a Ringside champion.

The co-main event will pit Pennsylvanian Atif Oberlton (7-0, 6KOs) against Artem Brusov (12-0, 11KOs) of Florida in an eight-round light heavyweight bout. Oberlton was a very active amateur with about 100 amateur fights on his resume. Brusov is no slack either he holds an amateur record of 101-22 even attaining gold in national and international tournaments.

The televised opening bout will have two PA fighters squaring off Julian Gonzalez (8-0-1, 8KOs) of Reading, PA and Rosalindo Morales (9-0, 2KOs) of Elllwood City, PA. Gonzalez who is 21 has already fought twice at this venue and scored stoppage victor in the first and second rounds as a matter of fact all have of his victories have come within two round stoppages. Morales is a former marine who has handed two other undefeated fighters their first loses via unanimous decision and won the Golden Gloves in PA at 141 in 2016 before turning pro in 2017.
