Fundora vs Thurman: War, at 154!

“The towering inferno”, Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15KOs) will be putting his WBC super welterweight title on the line when he faces off against former welterweight king Keith “One Time” Thurman (31-1, 23KOs) on March 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This fight will be presented live on Prime Video via PBC PPV.

A string of injuries has brought us to this point. In March 2024 Thurman was supposed to face Tim Tszyu for the WBO belt but due to an injury Thurman had to pull out of the fight. Fundora was fighting on the undercard for the vacant WBC but replaced Thurman, taking on Tszyu for both straps. Fundora won via split decision in a bloody back and forth war. Since then, Fundora has made short work of Chordale Booker after a fight with Errol Spence Jr. never came to fruition. Fundora chose to vacate the WBO title just to rematch with Tszyu, who was completely dominated by round seven.

This fight between Fundora and Thurman was supposed to take place back in October, but a hand injury Fundora suffered in camp delayed it till March 28th. Fundora stated the extra time to train for the same person was a big help. Fundora was quoted saying “Having more time to focus on one opponent is always a blessing,” Fundora said. “We wish it didn’t happen this way with the injury, but we’ll take advantage of the extra time. It was disappointing to have to postpone the fight, but things happen in boxing and in life. You just have to roll with the punches. Not being able to use my hands as much as I wanted was challenging. For a period of time, we couldn’t do that. So I had to figure out a way to make sense of it.” Beating this former world champion will make a big statement,” said the 28-year-old Fundora. “I still feel like I’m at the top of the division. I don’t think we’ve lost any momentum. We just had to reschedule. We’re not hiding from anybody. This is gonna remind everyone that we are at the top.”

Thurman is a 37-year-old former unified welterweight titleholder who has been incredibly inactive in recent years. He has only fought twice since losing to Manny Pacquiao in July 2019. Thurman outpointed Mario Barrios in February 2022 and made short work of Brock Jarvis in March 2025.

This fight is definitely going to be war as long as we see the old Thurman in the ring and not just an OLD Thurman. So, tune in come fight night and don’t miss out on the action!
