Edgar Berlanga’s Homecoming Headliner at the Hulu Theater Against Steve Rolls on March 19th

Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (18-0, 16 KOs) will face his toughest test to date when he squares off against Steve Rolls (21-1, 12KOs) in a 10 round middleweight main event on Saturday March 19th at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. Berlanga’s NABO belt will be put on the line. The fight will be presented live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes via Top Rank starting at 10 p.m. ET / 7p.m. PT.

Berlanga made big waves in the division by winning his first 16 fights by 1st round knockouts. In 2021 his KO streak came to an end where he went the distance twice. In April of 2021 he knocked down tough competitor Demond Nicholson who Berlanga dropped four times in eight rounds. In his second outing of 2021 Berlanga proved he can persevere when he took on Marcelo Estebam Coceres on the Tyson- Wilder III undercard. Berlanga suffered a torn bicep in the third round and tasted canvas for the first time in his career in the ninth. Even facing this adversity Berlanga still won via a 10 round unanimous decision. Berlanga was quoted stating about his upcoming fight with Rolls “I’m so excited to fight in my first main event in my hometown. It’s a dream come true for a fighter representing New York City and Puerto Rico. I can’t wait to show the world what I’m truly about. We are going to blow the roof off the Hulu Theater, so grab your tickets early and get your popcorn ready for this performance.” Berlanga is a strong young fighter who will hopefully make adjustments and continue to progress.

Crafty Canadian Steve Rolls is a 37 year old with 11 years under his belt as a pro. Rolls went undefeated and reached contender status until his only loss which came by way of one time middleweight booget man Gennadiy ” GGG” Golovkin back in June of 2019. Rolls was finding some success in the second round, but GGG proved to be to much stopping Rolls in the fourth. Nothing to be ashamed of, many have fallen at the hands of GGG. Steve Rolls is looking for redemption and is on his climb back up to contender status as he amassed two wins since his loss against GGG with is more recent bout ending via KO against Christopher Brooker in the ninth round on the Beterbiev- Brown undercard. Rolls was quoted as saying “I’m happy to be back headlining at Madison Square Garden. Training camp has been going well, and I feel very strong with nothing but war on my mind. Berlanga has power, but I’ll be ready for whatever he brings. I’m looking forward to March 19. I’ll see you then.”

Also on the card we have another hot prospect, undefeated Xander Zayas ( 12-0, 9KOs). Zayas kept busy in 2021 as he went 6-0 with four of those wins coming by way of KO. Zayas’ name has come up many times as a possible Prospect of the Year. Zayas will faces off against Quincy “Chico” LaVallais (12-2-1,7KOs) in an 8 round junior middleweight showdown. The televised opener will see U.S. Olympic Silver Medalist Keyshawn Davis (4-0, 3KOs) against Mexican veteran Esteban Sanchez (18-1, 8KOs).

Undercard bouts will stream live via ESPN+ and should not be overlooked, featuring  Puerto Rican junior welterweight John “El Terrible” Bauza (16-0, 7 KOs) in an eight-rounder, welterweight and Berlanga’s New York City stablemate Pablo “Pretty Boy” Valdez (6-0, 5 KOs) in a six-round attraction, Puerto Rican junior lightweight Henry “Moncho” Lebron (14-0, 9 KOs) in an eight-rounder, and a four-rounder featuring junior welterweight Kelvin Davis (3-0, 2 KOs).
